(Sydney, NS) - Good things came in Three tonight for Joel Plaskett at the Bell Aliant 2010 East Coast Music Awards presented by RBC tonight at Centre 200 in Sydney. The Halifax singer-songwriter's album, Three, helped him take home a total of six music awards: Sennheiser Entertainer of the Year, Konica Minolta Male Solo Recording of the Year, FACTOR Recording of the Year, Vibe Creative Group Single of the Year, SOCAN Songwriter of the Year, and MapleMusic Pop Recording of the Year.

What is a Yaffle? In Newfoundland English it means an armload of sticks, salt cod, or anything else for that matter. For the best part of last year, however, the word has been synonymous with the armload of research the Memorial University of Newfoundland has made searchable and accessible to the world through their “Yaffle” search engine.

Mining giant Xstrata announced they will be opening the Donkin coal mine 20 years after it was initially dug. Officials announced the decision to Donkin N.S. residents in a packed fire hall earlier this week. The news comes as a relief to local residents who say that jobs are desperately needed in the region.

A seafood company from Cape Breton has been in Singapore recently as part of a business delegation from the region. Led by Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation (ECBC), the delegation was in south-east Asia to coincide with the arrival of the yacht Cape Breton Island – Nova Scotia’s Masterpiece which is taking part in the Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race fleet.
